Of course, countries can no longer rely on the availability of the natural resources to meet the demand of electricity. More than electricity, nuclear capability has become a necessity to have a strong voice at the international platform. There is only one line of demarcation in the world now - you are either a nuclear country or a non-nuclear country - now it’s up to you to decide in which group you want to sit.

Unquestioningly, yes. Its the need of the hour for any country, if it has to sustain itself in a global perspective, to stay armed with the nukes in its kitty. Apart from constructive use, you need them to be more secured against any sort of foreign invasion and internal security.

Not necessary. Let me give you an example..several nations are facing acute food crisis and shortage of food grains to feed the people. Many of the agriculture-dependent countries ignored farming sector in past 10 years and the result is now visible to every one. India is Nuclear capable country, can such capability can help India to feed the one billion plus population. The country, which has enough food grains, clean drinking water and excellent healthcare system, will be the powerful country in real terms. Nuclear capability is a necessity but it cannot make you a powerful country in real terms.

Completely agreed with Hemant from India. Nuclear capability is a need of the time and every country wants to become nuclear state in today’s world. BUT the future is noy secure for the country which has nuclear power but no production of food grains for its own people.

The blind bio-fuels cultivation has created a massive food crisis. With other energy sources still at a nascent stage of development, nuclear energy seems to be the only option now.

The comity of nations (specially the big nations) will have to sit together and hammer out a pact to guide all nations’ march towards nuclear power.

Sadly, seeing the Iran issue, one must say that this seems far-fetched at present. US seems to be drifting from Russia. China is setting its own agendas. Russia is enjoying its new found oil power. None of the nations seem inclined to sit together and deal with the nuclear power dilemma.
