Strong evidences suggest presence of water on Mars

water-on-mars_18In the most stunning revelation yesterday, scientists analyzing the latest photographs taken by NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor show changes in craters that gives reasons enough to believe that water flowed on the frigid surface of the red planet in the recent years and there is a strong possibility that it’s flowing right now too or occasionally flows on it’s surface.

Life on Mars

The discovery, if it’s true, makes us believe about the probable presence of life on Mars and that it’s hospitable with a stable heat source. NASA’s hunters of extraterrestrial life in space pursued a ‘follow the water’ strategy and it has most likely come true though they’ve not seen it in actual form. The planet’s North Pole only has water ice and gives one more reason to believe that there is water out there and the possibility of microbial life too cannot be ruled out.

However, Allan Treiman, a geologist at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, is doubtful of the discovery and so are many others. He said:
Nothing in the images, no matter how cool they are, proves that the flows were wet, or that they were anything more exciting than avalanches of sand and dust.

Strong Evidences

The fact that sand or dust that could also flow in the same way and produce similar results, keeps scientists on their heels before giving out any concrete conclusion. Also, not to forget, Mars’ subzero surface temperature and low atmospheric pressure makes it impossible for water to remain in liquid form and diminishes the logic behind recent finding. But, scientists back their finding by saying that liquid water is often shot up by underground geysers. However, in the past too scientists have spotted thousands of geologically young gullies that were believed to be carved by fast-moving water coursing down cliffs and steep crater walls.

Scientists have found other strong evidences examining craters and gullies with bright, light-colored deposits formed due to recent water action. NASA’s twin rovers too have sent facts that the planet once had liquid water at or near the surface.

Now what?

The latest evidences will certainly make scientists to search for extraterrestrial life with revitalized vigor in the universe. NASA’s rovers, including Spirit and two Viking landers, are already on their mission to dig out more what Mars has instored for us. However, only time will tell how far and how soon we’ll, as Stephen Hawking’s says, be able to actually leave Earth and colonize other planets, and uncover the mystery of our existence.

Its a good news for our millionaires as if Mars has water on it then these people can spent some of their money to visit this planet for their vacations...

Previously in 2002 also, ‘flood like gullies’ postulated that some amount of water is present under the surface of Mars which posed question on human civilization however, the scientists discovered a similar occurrence on moon as well. Here they gave an explanation that maybe its coz of the bombardment of spatial meteoroids where a few of them contained some amount of water.

I guess same is the case in here as well…. had there been some amount of earthly atmosphere, then it would have led to some flora.

I am a strong believer of extraterrestrial life. I don’t think that Earth is the luckiest of the billions of planets in the universe. There has to be some life elsewhere. The problem is that we are not as advanced as we need to be to take some serious steps to find our alien mates.

Water is the main essence of life as according to scientists no form of life can exist without Water. This discovery is gives some hope of life on Mars. We still cannot see any water on the surface of Mars because of the Sub Zero temperature. But there is a strong possibility of finding some Underground water. As if we go underground then the temperature rises 1 degree Celsius after every 32 Meters this rise is due to the pressure of the ground above so i still believe that there will be some water under the red Surface of the Planet that should support some form of Life on it.

Well its good now one can plan for vaccations on Mars.

Hey Jolly if you are a strong believer of extraterrestrial life than don’t believe that only water is the main essence of life. Who knows in what form we might find life forms on other planets.

The main aim of scientific community in finding water on Mars is not just to find life forms out there but they are looking for Opportunity that Mars with Water can provide for the survival of inhabitants of Earth.

It’s a great boost to the efforts done by researchers giving them another opportunity to continue and uncover the hidden secrets.

Hey Jolly if you are a strong believer of extraterrestrial life than don’t believe that only...
Pankaj I agree with you that way may find some weird forms of life on the planet but your saying that ”The main aim of scientific community in finding water on Mars is not just to find life forms out there but they are looking for Opportunity that Mars with Water can provide for the survival of inhabitants of Earth.” dont you think that humans need oxygen to breathe and we cannot carry that much oxygen with us that will be enough for a full civilization to prosper on Mars... We cannot live in Water I guess...
