muhammad cartoon protest

Danish newspapers have republished Prophet Muhammad’s caricatures showing their commitment to freedom of speech after an alleged plot to kill one of the cartoonists, Westergaard, surfaced. The Danish media seems to stand united against fanaticism; however, it can unleash a new cycle of turmoil and rekindle the fiery debate over free speech and Islam that took Europe by storm in 2006.

Caricatures are exaggerated pictures which may seem to be sometimes silly. It is part of freedom of speech in the journalistic point of view.

This may be a way of identifying what is sacred and not to both worlds. It is time to talk things over.

I am looking at this event as a sense of awakening that people’s sensitivities are coming out in the open. But I think fanatics are too overwhelmed by their actions.

The threat to kill one of the cartoonists is indeed a form of terrorism. I have nothing against Muslims, but the reaction is an indication of oversensitivity and out of bounds.

Terrorism among Islamic personalities should be cleansed so that caricatures like these can be avoided.

It is about time to take things in diplomatic relations and burning of the flag of the country being protested is already passe’.

We are in the 21st century. Gone are the days of simply protesting the old way. If Muslims really were insulted, they should come in unison and protest in a peaceful manner to the Danish government.

Enough to killing of people — this is just contributing to the countless wasteful terror acts revolving globally.

Excellent way to use the right to freedom of speech and expression. I read somewhere that the cartoon was shown on TV channels and newspapers, who were against it earlier, have supported the republishing the caricatures. This is just another example of extremism to counter Islamic extremism.

"But I have turned fear into anger and resentment," said Westergaard. isn't it smart way to battle with evils?

In 2006, Danes faced crisis because of a small group of extremist Islamic leaders who travelled all round the way to Egypt and Lebanon just for explaining Muslims how provocative cartoons were. It led the violence and anger against Danish people.

This is shame that people are putting religious sentiments in centre to create a fight. Danish envoys living in Muslim countries will become the first victims of Islamic anger.

The Danish cartoonists had done their job what they and other cartoonists do every day. The Islamic anger against the cartoons surprised everyone because nothing was wrong in the depiction, after all it was a cartoon not the real picture.

Two years ago some 150 people were killed in demonstrations in Islamic countries now the count might touch 15000 and danish journalists will be responsible for killing.

I support the danish newspapers have the right and liberty to publish the cartoons but reprinting the cartoons is just kiddish stupidity. They should have taken other route to show their anger.

I believe reprinting act to show the unity against the murder plot is very foolish. It won't help in building the bridges between you and us.

What should I call it know not – may be calling for the trouble knowingly, but will call it a brave step of the Danish press for sure to refuse to shrink from the superstitious barbarians who try to pull the world back to dark ages. But surly there was no need for it as now it can start new conflict.

Freedom of expression never means to hurt the feelings of others and this is surly a step against the religious sentiments of Muslims. Even though I am not a muslim but I don’t condone any such action and never in the name of freedom of expression!

Has religion got to do anything with this...i don't think so. There are fanatics who use religion to achieve their goals. Sane people should clearly isolate from them, they are actually hurting you.

oh oh!!! we often talk of freedom or freedom of expression, but these are surely for the sake of saying only. however, one thing I am sure about; muslim community is not worth living in the 21st century. they still want to live in the stone age. this is an example how shakable their faith is and how fearful they are for their religion otherwise there wouldn't have been so much of conflict in the world at the moment. if there is conflict in the world it's only because of these muslim fanatics who have spread chaos in the name of religion every now and then. Danish press has protected the freedom of expression... should be continued...there is no reason why to stop this

BECAUSE these advocates of ’freedom of speech’ get away everytime by drawing a line of similarity between Islam and Terrorism. And ironically, there are people who support these hooligans. Let them move ahead in the same direction and we will see them showing their talents at other religions like Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism. It should not come as a surprise if one fine day we find cartoons of non-Islamic religious figures competing to get more news coverage. For Islam, they came up with terrorism... tomorrow maybe they will portray Budhha engaged in a taboo act...or even worse imagine Jesus Christ shaking hands with an Islamic terrorist (read Osama Bin Laden). And as far as other social evils are concerned, only time will tell..which religion is lucky to get linked to the worst crime.
THEN... and only then we can label these people as taking the matters too far. Right for now, they can play with the sentiments of muslim people.
P.S. As Robert said... just wait...

What's sacred for Muslim's is not necessarily sacred for others. If they have any objection, they better not see them. You can't impose the beliefs of your faith upon followers of other faiths.

We shall do whatever to protect our freedom of speech and expression. We don't need the Osamas of the world to tell us what to do and what not to. This is our country and our freedom. Muhammad does not have any say. This is precisely why one of the cartoons showed Muhammad's head as a ticking bomb. Muhammad's cartoon reflected the state of the Islamic world and it depicts it correctly.

Yes, I agree completely. It is indeed going too far actually. In order to co-exist in this world, all faiths must have the utmost respect for each other. Else, we shall develop more intolerance than the levels we are seeing now in the future.

This simple thought should not get lost in the thoughts of those who advocate freedom of speech. In many countries we have defamation laws. In the name of freedom of speech you just can’t show or say something about a person in a bad light without any evidence.

I find this very offensive indeed.
