Newspaper circulation deteriorating: The media battle gets fierce! The facts pitched by Peter Oberois, keeping in mind the decline in circulation of all top US newspapers, clearly backs forecasts made by media analysts.

Jason Calacanis too chides print media and truly iterates that it’s the delivery of ‘message’ that matters instead of the medium. The online ‘New Media’ revolution, of course boosted mainly by Google and online news sites and blogs, has proved that soon newspapers, radio and television stations would lose the game. According to the analysts, the traditional media will see its downfall up to 5 to 10% every year in the coming 10 years and ultimately only 10 per cent of the whole will survive.

Reasons behind this acceleration:

1. People are now bored of the old media, which includes just reporting and is static and one way
2. Readers are no more interested in ‘recycled news’, they want to participate and have their say and online media, especially blogs, are helping them do so with a minimum of fuss. Moreover, online media industry too has realized this and is heavily incorporating attractive features and tools to boost the whole phenomenon.
3. We cannot deny that audience migration to the web is on the rise and online usage too has cultivated new habits in users and here online media is gaining tremendously
4. user generated content is helping it grow too, just anyone can contribute news and information via the user-friendly platform the new media is providing and ultimately making the readers journalists
5. From business point of few, it’s easy to set up a news site or a blog and get going
6. The almost nil infrastructure cost too is luring people towards it

Newspaper circulation deteriorating: The media battle gets fierce!Even online newspapers that follow old business models are adapting to the change and coming slowly into the web 2.0 stream by incorporating tools that increase reader participation and providing services targeting broad audiences and advertisers. If we consider the time spent by readers on online media, websites it too shows an overall increase.

From global perspective, the traditional media is still able to reach out more, but is not equipped enough to fight against technology, which apparently is armed, even in the poorest nations, with tools like radio, OLPC and handhelds hooked on with the net giving live instant updates, enough to give voice to their views instead of feeling paralysized by not able to do so. However, online media has given them choice and freedom too. The ‘New Media’ has transformed the way ‘media’ is doing business. No doubt, traditional media has a perilous future and the irony is they are oblivious of it.

Check out more graphs by NewsDesigner that proves the point.

I don’t know how much world is getting out of it, but to be frank it is really benefiting me.On the other hand it will benefit the environment more by reducing the cut down of trees for making papers.

The traditional media has not been completely swiped out but yes a handsome shear has been dragged by web.2 as it is the most impressive media which offers full liberty to its viewers to share their ideas and keep them enrolled through their active participation.

As more and more people specially in the developing countries like India will become computer literate they will obviously shift to Web 2.0 as they will not have to wait till the morning for the latest news they can always use the easier and the more powerful media like Web 2.0.

And this media also has a good CRM model so readers can always share their views that makes it a more powerful tool as compared to the traditional model of newspapers

The slump you are looking is justified coz the news papers are publishing inappropriate content that’s usually influenced by NP’s own ideology and diverging from fundamentals………..giving rise to the need of online media. Secondly online media is bridging-up the gap created by traditional media…..through active participation…. Thirdly the online media offers the specific readership………

No doubt on line media, together with Web 2.0, is emerging one of the strongest and forceful medium of expression, but to speak that it will completely wipe out the traditional media will be excessive optimism.

It certainly will steal some share of conventional mediums of news but most of the nations of the world either are developing or underdeveloped and more often than not relies on traditional media………….

”The ‘New Media’ has transformed the way ‘media’ is doing business.”

I have experienced the difference myself. We get bored of fluttering the pages of the newspaper or waiting for news channels to give the news of our interest. However, New Media gives us maximum number of news at a glance and best example can be seen in the reading room of Instablogs.com.

Not only that but reader can actively participate in the news.

The traditional media will surely remain in the poorest of nations, but the shift to web 2.0 will be a revelation in the developing countries. It is a benefit for me as a blogger hoping it will be a benefit for the others too.

I think old media has become outdated.New media is not static as one can participate and present their views and of course can have maximum number of information in a very short time.

Here, I am in a fix that is the online media capable of revolution in any front of the society as it was done by Print and electronic media. Or it is just trying to snatch the revenue of traditional media. I tend to give some argue of my saying that traditional media is far more pragmatic rather the online media. A novice writer writes an article, based on that information which has provided by someone else on net whereas a reporter of electronic and print media is acquainted with the news more practically.

It will be quite wrong to say that online media is going to totally outstrip the traditional media. However, it will snatch a good share of the market like the TV media did earlier to the traditional media. The user-generated content has become a big thing in the past and moreover, net has sprung up in the last few years. A good portion of the online media is turning increasingly to the readership for news editing. Infact, online media has given powers to the readers unlike the newspaper which are a sort of on-way communication. I do agree with the your words ””traditional media has a perilous future and the irony is they are oblivious of it.”” They even can’t do anything since they can never offer the two-way communication process.
