60 years down the line, can a unified Israel-Palestine state be a reality?

Israel is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation. Ehud Olmert marks the Remembrance Day by stating that ‘It is peace, not war, that we aspire to and crave’, however, the Jewish state still remains a land of uncertainty with unresolved conflicts with neighbouring Arab countries and the Palestinians. The two-state solution, which is the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, remains a distant dream. No Israeli leader is in favor of sharing power with Palestinians, but years of failure of peace talks has apparently driven some to push the idea of a single democratic state with equal rights for all.

Never...let me repeat the word - NEVER. Can India and Pakistan become a single country?, Can India and Bangladesh become a single nation? There are so many examples in the line. We can discuss such unified state but hard to make it possible.

No lines once drawn are drawn for ever and no looking back. yes Israeli arbs are already struggling for their rights and merging present Philistine with israel with start another saga of miseries for the annexed Arabs. this is nothing more than a Joke...an idle man's workshop. it is virtually impossible and I think there is no example in the history wherein two states have been merged and they went hand in hand peace fully. can someone give me one example?

yes this will be an ideal solution, as long as restoring peace in the combustible mideast is concerned. I may sound insane to support this as there is no example in the history where the annexing nations went on without disputes, as Yaniv mentioned. but, something is better than nothing and it's always wise to settle down peacefully with little than to fight for a bigger pie and losing peace and everything. I argue in favor of any such move. one state(israel)with equal rights to jews and Arabs, but at the same time doubtful about both sides agreeing to it.

no this will be a blunder for the Arabs. Israel may have gained in the past but now it's time for the Arabs. with each passing day their goal is coming near why be so impatient. time is not far away when the jews will be minority and that will ultimately lead Arabs to their goal. so any such move will be a blunder. hail ppl things are coming your way. don't be in hurry!!!

then one day pigs will start flying.LOLLLLLLZZZZZZZZZ. why to talk that couldn't happen. coz as long as israel thinks that big israel without peace is better than small israel with peace any such thought is nothing more than searching meat in eagle's nest. differences are too wide to bridge and only future knows what is in store.

yeah stephen I agree with you, but you forgot to see the other side of the coin. and your reason for never ending conflict in mideast has a point. however, peace is not possible in the mideast for reason being many. yes bcoz arbs are every more adamant not to recognize Israel and they always defy israel's right to exist which is again the bone of contention for the conflict. so at the end I would add, please contradict if i am wrong, that they don't want to settle down with peaceful borders neither they can coz idealogical differences do not allow them to. hence there will be no peace in the mideast. what say????

60 years of occupation, 60 years of murder, 60 years of illegal settlements, 60 years of brutality and confiscation, 60 years and more....and more and god knows what not, but will bring only never ending conflict and nothing more. get ready for more bloodshed they'll not settle down until either of them is destroyed. so let the mess be over. that is only the solution as scores of time the world community made the efforts to resolve the crises but all in vain. destruction and bloodshed is their destiny and they simply can't avoid it. a unified Israel-Palestine land is a nice dream but not the reality.

this idea is good however, mine will be better. How? let me tell you. Peace in the mideast is possible only if Israel recognizes Palestine(west bank + gaza) as a separate nation while returning confiscated land and Arabs will accept israel's right to exist. this is the only way for the peace and the present offer, as you asked, will only mess up the things in the mideast and conflict will not end forever. peace will only come when borders for both the nations will be decided.
